Custodial history

This was the first accession to be acquired by Seneca Archives and Special Collections, as well as the first transfer from the Department of Media Production. The Media Production Department produced official physical photographs for Seneca events for many years. The photos, taken for marketing and posterity purposes, cover a large span of the College's history (1967-2001). These records were boxed and sent to the archives after being shuffled around between departments, including the Department of Marketing and Communications, eventually finding their way to Seneca's Markham Campus library under the care of Carolyn Lam, Associate Director of Information Resources and Digital Services Management. Before being accessioned by Seneca Archives and Special Collections the materials were frequently accessed by staff and faculty of the college for promotional material, campaigns, and for use in the student, faculty, and alumni newspapers.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of photographs taken by various Seneca photographers such as John Telford, George Suzuki and others, working for the Department of Media Production between 1967-2001. The photos were taken for promotional purposes, and to act as a photographic documentation of the development of Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology. Photographs depict numerous events and people throughout the College's history, and the collection serves as one of the strongest visual documentations of Seneca's history.
